Birkin Basket

Jane Birkin straw basket

Jane Birkin had this adorable habit of carrying a woven basket with her like a purse. Her basket preference was so widely noted that she inspired Monsieur Hermes to create a more practical version of his own that became the Birkin bag, a ludicrously sought after panel of animal skin that the influential treat like a personal unicorn. It’s beautifully made, but the muse herself had a comfortable and unpretentious charm – just like her basket. Carrying a basket in the summer keeps sticky leather and plastic off of the skin and has the delightful potential of an impromptu picnic. They are most useful between the sizes of soccer ball and watermelon. Even though a basket may not be the safest bag for plane travel, it’s made to carry food from the grocery and out to the beach. Jane knows.

No matter how hard you wanna to get away from the plaids n’ madras, I’ve seen a lot of decent warm (read: bright) button ups this spring. This one’s great, goes with anything and also detailed with some nice elbow patches to frill it out.

The Little Prince Dishware

The pastels and thin lines of the illustrations in Le Petit Prince translate perfectly onto white dishware. I can’t think of anything more appropriate than sustaining yourself on petit scrumptious foods while watching the little prince tend to his planet. How many quotes from that book told us to slow down and enjoy something small?
